Carmen

James and I went to the Cultural Center to see a flamenco dancing version of Carmen. It was very colorful and the dresses that the dancers wore were spectacular. It included a lot of foot stomping and hand clapping with a singer that sounded just like a member of The Gypsy Kings. It was very professional and of course the dancers knew exactly what they were doing, but I found it lacking something. Usually, when I watch live performances, I get waves of goosebumps from the sheer enjoyment of seeing something that well synchronised. This show however, had few such moments because although there were many dancers on stage at any one time, there would only be one or two really dancing. The others would stand around clapping. It's great for the first 30 minutes, but after that I really appreciated the few times when all the skirts were twirling simultaneously and they were filling the stage with movement and color.

More later!
